Burns Federation Conference
2006
Normandy Hotel, Renfrew

Another excellent conference was enjoyed by all who travelled, from far and wide, to enjoy the business of the Federation, the friendship of our meeting and the pleasure of renewing old acquaintances.

The business of the AGM was well conducted by the outgoing President John Paterson who handed over the chain of office to the able and most enthusiastic Angus Middleton.

During the meeting Bill Dawson was elected as the new Junior Vice President and Donnie McCuaig was awarded the Altruism Award which is defined at the end.

Once again we were pleased to welcome a large group of friends from overseas travelling from Calgary, Ontario, Winnipeg, Hawaii, Florida, Texas, San Francisco, Niagara Falls and Australia.

On the Saturday evening we were also delighted to welcome Provost Ronnie Burns of Renfrew, Provost Cianno Rebecchi of Inverclyde, Deputy Provost Tommy Farrell of East Ayrshire and Provost Kenny Cameron, OBE of Dumfries.

Our thanks go to May and Harry McGuffog and their committee for their hard work which resulted in an excellent and most enjoyable weekend.

We look forward to Winnipeg, August 3rd & 4th of 2007

Altruism Award

This year for the first time, we have a special award – The Altruism Award.

The Dictionary meaning of Altruism is “Unselfish concern for the welfare of others” and is someone who is public-spirited, unselfish and charitable.
There are many within the Federation who fall into that category, but one person has been brought to our notice for the considerable work they do in entertaining, visiting and generally bringing cheer to those in less fortunate circumstances.

It was decided therefore to make this award to show our appreciation to someone who epitomises the philosophy of Robert Burns that:-

The social, friendly, honest Man whate’er he be, ‘tis he fulfils great nature’s plan and none but he

The recipient of this year’s award is Donnie McCuaig
